Despite times when she seems like an airhead, Elena is very loyal to the Turks, and takes her job very seriously, in some ways more so than Reno and Rude. Or at least, in a more overt way. Even when Elena is off duty, she is still a Turk.
At first glance, it's easy to dismiss Elena as a ditzy airhead, or dumb blonde. But they're is much more to her than time. Elena's nickname seems to have before Rookie, although she is no longer one. Elena is very proud of her job and considers it to be the center of her life, though it is unhealthy. Elena's chattering ways, her crush on Tseng and her inability to keep her emotions under control do not suggest Turk material but she's working on perfecting her business skills and they have improved greatly.
Elena is always fighting for the pride of the Turks. She's still hot-headed and ready to take on an challenger but she's definitely grown up. She's there ready to do whatever it takes to get the job done.
Elena wants to impress her superiors (which is only natural), especially Tseng, who she is a little infatuated with.
And while on the subject of her companions, Elena often gets a hard time from Reno. While Rude is quite taciturn, Reno openly criticizes Elena and calls her weak, even though she is anything but that. She comes across as ditzy and appears to be trying too hard to be strong and tough. But there is obviously more to her. Despite whatever circumstances she was became a Turk in, Tseng is not the type of person to allow an incompetent Turk into his team. She's strong willed and a good fighter, and she seems to go on instinct a lot of the time, with a little guidance from Reno and Rude. Despite how Reno speaks to her, he only wants her to be a better Turk. Both of them care for her, just like she cares for them.
